How To Enable Dark Mode on Google Chrome for Android 2019

The demand for Dark Mode and dark themes has increased as OLEDs are becoming popular on Android phones. Google has implemented a system wide-range Dark Mode in Android Q already and most of its apps also have the Dark Mode enabled.

While Dark Mode is good for the eyes on OLED phones, Dark Mode also help in reducing battery consumption.

In this post, we will be looking at how to enable Dark Mode in Google Chrome. Google recently rolled out Dark Mode for Google Android but did it quietly, maybe because the feature isn't fully ready for the general public. So don't expect a perfect Dark Mode without glitches.


To activate the Dark Mode on Google Chrome, you will need to have Chrome version 74 or higher running on your Android device. If it isn't version 74 or higher, head over to the Play Store and upgrade the app and do the below:

• Go to the address chrome://flags
• Next, search for "Android Chrome UI dark mode and select Enabled
• Now relaunch your Chrome app and then go to Settings>Dark Mode to enable/disable the Dark Mode.

Though the Dark Mode feature on the Chrome doesn't look finished, it however does applya dark theme to the main browser user interface including the new tab, the tab switcher, address bar and other menus within the app.
