Huawei evades sanctions and develops 5G retrofit case?
Huawei roams wisely from US sanctions. Most smartphones are not compatible with 5G due to the sanctions, but even that may be resolved.
According to Phone Arena, Huawei is developing a "case with a function to support 5G" for the P50 series that does not support 5G with its flagship.
IT Home in China also has a photo of this case. In addition to seeing the 5G mark on the back of the main unit, the case itself is quite thick, and it seems that a USB-C port is prepared on the case side probably for power supply.
The idea of "adding a function to a smartphone with an external case" can already be seen in Motorola's moto mods. However, these items usually require metal or magnetic contacts. I didn't see such a contact on the P50, so this case probably uses the original USB-C port to support 5G communication. Practicality remains questionable in terms of weight and design.

Huawei has a wide variety of ways to escape sanctions from the United States, such as adopting a chip that omits 5G from the Snapdragon 888 and making the sub-brand HONOR independent. However, not only that, we sell smartphones jointly with partner companies, and we are preparing a wisdom selection series that leaves the supply of chips to partner companies that are not subject to sanctions.
