A Woman Gives Up Everything To Save Hundreds Of Abandoned Dogs
Sebahat Hanifeoglu is a resident of Kastamonu, Turkey, she has given up everything to help the homeless dogs in her city. Her journey started when she first saw the large number of abandoned dogs roaming the streets. Nearly all of them had evidence of malnutrition, and several of them displayed signs of mistreatment.
Sebahat was aware that she couldn’t abandon these dogs. She was also aware of how unlikely it would be to immediately save all of the abandoned dogs. Sebahat therefore prioritized her list as opposed to freaking out. She would first head to the locations where the abandoned dogs were eking out a living.
She started the journey by waking up at the break of dawn every morning. She would then gather blankets, water, and food, and start the trek into the mountains to search for new dogs.
The dogs obviously enjoyed seeing their rescuer, and not just because she brought them food and water or made an effort to give them better shelter. The dogs knew that Sebahat truly cared for them, and they loved her for the companionship she offered. It was also only fair that the dogs found happiness in a loving human after being cruelly abandoned by their previous “owners.”
The journey didn’t end there. Sebahat still makes daily trips to five locations to provide abandoned dogs with whatever she has (and more).
Big Dreams Starting Small
Sebahat didn’t like leaving the homeless dogs in the open without any protection, despite her efforts to help them. Fortunately, this led to a thought that would start a gradual (but necessary) transition.
With the help of a few volunteers, Sebahat started building sheds to give the dogs some shelter. Unfortunately, their kind actions were accompanied by the selfish actions of others. Not only would people abandon their dogs, but some would even steal the sheds that provided the dogs with shelter.
Sebahat and the dogs are forces to be reckoned with though. The cruel actions of others have only made them more determined to beat the odds.
“I’m just doing what we should all be doing,” Sebahat said. “And I’ll never give up.”
The future definitely looks promising for Sebahat and her dogs. With the help of volunteers, Sebahat is hoping to build an emergency shelter for the dogs – a shelter that can’t be stolen or destroyed by cruel third parties.
Sebahat and volunteers will accomplish their goal, and the abandoned dogs will finally have a safe place with lots of human interaction and love.
