Dog waited for her homeless owner to be discharged for weeks outside the hospital

Last month, staff at the Santo Antônio de Jesus Regional Hospital in Brazil discovered a dog that had been quietly lingering in front of the hospital. It seems the dog’s waiting for someone.

The staff at the hospital then provided food and water for the dog themselves. They found out her name was Mel. And she’s waiting for her owner, a homeless man who has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

She’d watched as he was led through the doors, and then faithfully settled in to await his return.

When the staff became aware of this, they made the decision to plan a touching reunion to put an end to the dog’s protracted vigil. Mel couldn’t have been happier to be back in her best friend’s arms.

While his therapy is still going on, she is grateful that her wait is now over, at least in part. Now, each day, the pair are given the chance to spend time together.

The length of time Mel’s owner will need to stay in the hospital before he and his dog can be reunited permanently is unknown, but the team is aiming to send the two home with some extra support.They’ve set up a donation page to assist them in getting back on their feet.

Although the owner of Mel’s may not appear to be particularly wealthy on the surface, it is obvious that he is wealthy in ways that are more important.
